Why I Never Rush a Pest Control Visit
Ever had a tradesperson in your home who made you feel like you were holding them up?
They rush through the job, mutter something technical on the way out, and leave you standing in your own kitchen not entirely sure what just happened — or what you just paid for.
I've heard that story from clients across Adelaide metro more times than I can count. And somewhere early on, I decided House Care Pest Control would run on the opposite principle: nobody gets rushed in their own home. Ever.

The extra twenty minutes
An average pest treatment takes me around 40 minutes to an hour and a half. But the inspection itself can take just as long — and that's deliberate. (Rodent inspections are usually quicker)
Every inspection starts with questions:
-
What's going on here?
-
Where are the hotspots of noise or activity you're seeing? Can you point them out?
-
What time are you mostly hearing them?
-
How long ago did the activity start?
-
Where's your manhole?
While you answer, we can walk through the whole house together — and as we go, I start pointing out details and evidence along the way. Then I search for evidence myself and photograph every important point. I send you all the photos and we discuss each clue together, confirming what we suspected or opening up a new path on the issue itself.
Only then do I present your options and my recommendation moving forward, with a firm quote.
Once you're happy with the quote and I've answered all your questions, you're welcome to keep walking with me — as long as it's not a spray treatment. And before I leave, we sit down (sometimes over a cuppa, if you're offering) and I explain what I did and what to expect over the coming days and weeks.
If all of that takes an extra twenty minutes or so — that's not a delay to the job. That is the job. A treatment you don't understand is only half a service — because I count on you to keep a close eye on things and let me know if anything persists past the timeframe I set. Rodent treatment, for instance, can take up to 4 weeks to a month to reach full eradication.
Who this matters to most
Everyone deserves this, and everyone gets it. But over the years I've noticed who mentions it most.
Older clients, often living alone, who've had a lifetime of tradies talking over their heads — and who light up when someone finally explains things properly, answers the same question twice without sighing, and doesn't push them to sign anything on the spot.
And women who are home during the day when I arrive, who — completely fairly — want to know exactly who is in their house, what he's doing, and where. Walking the property together isn't an inconvenience. It's how trust is built with a stranger in your home.
I'm a one-person operation — so far. When you call House Care, you get me: the same person who answered the phone, quoted the job, and will stand behind the work. No call centre, no rotating strangers. And that translates into one thing — accountability.
No pressure, full stop
Here's my standing promise on every quote: take your time.
Want to think it over for a week? Think it over. Want to ask your son or daughter to look over the quote? Please do — I'm happy to explain it to them on the phone too. Want a second opinion? Get one.
There's no "this price is only valid today." No scare tactics about what happens if you don't book immediately. Pests are a genuine problem, but with very few exceptions they are not a today-or-disaster emergency — and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling urgency, not pest control.
The strange thing about never pressuring anyone? People come back. And they send their neighbours, their parents, and their friends. A huge share of my work across Adelaide comes from exactly those referrals — often from the very clients other companies would have rushed out the door.
But honestly, that's not why I do it. I'm a father of three, and I'm also blessed to still have my mum and dad, both in their 75s. I like to treat people the way I'd want someone to treat them — not just as good service, but on a human level. Sorry if that's a bit cheesy, but I have no other explanation — and by the way I sleep well at night.
What this looks like on the day
So you know what to expect when you book:
I confirm a time bracket and turn up — and if I'm running late from an earlier job, you'll get a text or a call, not silence. I inspect first and explain what I've found before anything gets treated. You're welcome to accompany me for any or all of it. Everything I use is family and pet safe, and I'll tell you plainly what I'm applying and where. And before I go, you'll know exactly what was done and why, what to expect, and what the warranty covers.
That's it. No mystery, no jargon, no rush.
Common questions
Most general treatments take 45 minutes to an hour and a half. Depending on access, the scenario and the evidence, it can take a little longer — because inspecting properly and explaining the findings matters as much as the treatment itself. I can only remember doing one treatment in and out in fifteen minutes, and that was because the client was in a rush and asked for it. So yes — I can do that too, if that's what you need.
How long should a pest control visit take?
With me, you're welcome to. You'll see all the evidence through photos in tricky areas like roof voids and on top of the roof — and if you wish, I can walk you around the house perimeter, fence line and interior to show you exactly what makes those spots favourable for pests. You can ask questions as we go. All treatments are family and pet safe, so there's no need to vacate for general work — only for sprays.
Should I stay home during the pest control visit?
Absolutely. Family members are always welcome to sit in, or to call me afterwards with questions. I don't pressure clients.
Can someone be with me when I get a quote?
No. Explaining the job properly is part of the job. My quote is for the result, not the stopwatch.
Do you charge more for taking extra time?
It happens all the time, and it's completely fine — there's a lot of information in one visit. Text or call me any time, even weeks later, and I'll happily explain it again. No question is too small, and you're never "bothering me." Plus, you'll have all the inspection photos I sent you, so we can go over any of it together.
And if you want extra peace of mind about your home, you can always ask for my 12-point inspection — then you get not just the photos, but a written summary of everything I found and discussed, so nothing relies on memory at all.
Relax — this is not your regular pest controller.
