Cockroach Control Adelaide
Cockroaches are the pest nobody wants to admit they have — and the one that has nothing to do with how clean your home is. I'm Werner from House Care Pest Control, and I treat cockroaches across Adelaide from my St Agnes base with the same approach as everything else I do: find the source, treat where they actually live and breed, and keep your indoor spaces chemical-light.

The two cockroach problems Adelaide homes actually have
Most of my cockroach calls are one of two very different situations — and they need completely different treatments:
Big cockroaches coming in from outside. Australian and American cockroaches — the large ones that appear in summer, usually at night, often in the bathroom or laundry. They live outdoors (gardens, drains, subfloors, wood piles) and wander in through gaps looking for water. Seeing a few of these doesn't mean you have an infestation; it means your home has entry points and Adelaide is having a warm night. The fix is an exterior barrier and sealing where they get in.
German cockroaches breeding inside. Small, fast, light-brown, and found in kitchens — behind the fridge, in appliance motors, inside cupboard hinges. These are the serious ones: they breed indoors, multiply fast, and spraying them off the bench does nothing to the nest. The fix is targeted treatment at the accessible harbourages, as for the remaining inaccessible harbourage areas bating is the best approach and the one that render me 100% rate on cockroaches, as they carries back and shares — slower to watch, but it actually ends the problem.
Getting this diagnosis right is most of the job, and it's why I inspect before I treat. Spraying a German cockroach problem like it's an outdoor one is how infestations get worse while the invoice says "treated." More on inspection: Never Rushed
Which cockroach have you got? A quick ID guide
German cockroach — the small indoor breeder
Size: small — around 1.2 to 1.6 cm (thumbnail-sized)
Colour: light brown / tan, with two dark stripes behind the head
Where you see them: kitchens, and always near warmth — behind and under the fridge, inside appliance motors, dishwashers, and anything electronic that stays on 24/7 (internet modems are a favourite; a warm modem is a five-star cockroach hotel). Once numbers grow, they spread out from the kitchen through the rest of the house — bathrooms first, then everywhere.
What it means: this is the breeding infestation. It will not fix itself, and surface sprays make it worse by scattering them.
The big outdoor cockroaches (Australian, American, smoky-brown) — the summer wanderers
Size: big — 3 to 4 cm
Colour: dark — reddish-brown to nearly black, depending on the species
Where they live: outside, in dirt, grass, garden beds, mulch, wood piles, drains and subfloors. They come indoors at night through gaps, looking for water — which is why you meet them in the bathroom or laundry at 11pm.
What it means: your home has entry points and a warm night, not an infestation. An exterior barrier and sealing is the fix.
The 5-second test: small and light brown near the fridge or a warm appliance = German, and it's time to act. Big and dark, appearing at night near water = outdoor wanderer, and the fix is the perimeter. Not sure? How I treat cockroaches
For outdoor species: an exterior barrier treatment around entry points, drains, subfloor vents and harbourage areas — focused where they live and travel, so your indoors stays chemical-light. For German cockroaches: professional baits placed precisely at harbourages, plus insect growth regulators where needed to break the breeding cycle. All treatments are family and pet safe, and I'll show you exactly where everything is placed.
Cockroach control is also included in PestShield — my 12-pest exterior barrier with a 6-month warranty — which is the right fit if roaches are one of several pests you're seeing.

My secret for german cockroaches
Maybe you saw one of my Google reviews about cockroaches, or you were referred to House Care — either way, here's my edge: I use steam as an add-on for a fast knockdown of their numbers.
The thing with German cockroaches is that the client is normally supposed to do a deep clean between treatments — and often clients can't do it properly, which voids the warranty with most companies, and then a whole new treatment has to be purchased.
That never sat right with me. Some people simply aren't able to do it — they might be elderly, or going through a rough patch, or just flat out with life. So I researched a non-chemical answer and invested in a serious steam machine: I flush them out with steam and capture them with a vacuum, on the spot. The steam also kills eggs before they can hatch — making it the most effective non-chemical options for inaccessible areas.
With that, my 3-month warranty stands regardless of the deep clean — and any revisit needed during it is at no extra charge. Peace of mind, without homework.
What actually attracts cockroaches (it's not dirt)
A dripping tap, slow-draining sink, damp subfloor, or even a pet water bowl left out overnight attracts cockroaches far more effectively than a few crumbs on the bench. That’s exactly why even spotless homes can still get them.
My treatments deliver the results — and if they ever bounce back, I’ll return during the warranty period and fix it at no extra charge. That said, the real long-term success comes from these simple home fixes. They make your house and yard far less inviting to cockroaches in the first place. Prevention beats extermination always.

Common cockroach questions in Adelaide
Does seeing a cockroach mean my house is dirty?
No — and I say that in genuinely spotless homes every summer. Large outdoor cockroaches wander into any home with entry points and water. Even German cockroach infestations usually start by hitching a ride in — cardboard boxes, second-hand appliances, grocery bags — not because of housekeeping. By the way roaches love the feel of cardboard, so avoid keeping cardboard boxes inside at all — they're a favourite hiding and breeding spot.
Why do I keep seeing cockroaches after spraying supermarket spray?
Because most surface sprays only kill the ones you can see — they don’t touch the hidden nesting areas or break the life cycle. In fact, the spray often repels the survivors deeper into wall voids, cracks, and harbourages. With German cockroaches especially, this can scatter them and actually spread the infestation further. You might knock down the visible ones, but without treating the nesting grounds, they keep bouncing back — often worse than before. It becomes a losing battle. That’s why a proper professional treatment makes such a big difference: it targets the source, not just the symptoms.
How long does cockroach treatment take to work?
Outdoor barrier treatments knock activity down within 3 days to 1 week. German cockroach baiting typically shows a big drop within the first treatment, specially if you add the steam flush, full results take up to 2 weeks, as the breeding cycle breaks. I'll tell you what to expect for your specific situation — and when to call me if it isn't tracking.
How much does cockroach control cost in Adelaide?
Depends which cockroach problem you've got. Large outdoor cockroaches are a single-visit treatment; German cockroaches are priced as a two-visit treatment a week apart — the price covers ending the infestation, not showing up twice — with the steam flush as an optional add-on. Cockroaches are also covered in PestShield with the 6-month warranty, which is the better fit if roaches are one of several pests you're seeing. Current prices for everything, and what moves a job within its range, live on my honest pricing guide.
